Файл:Mm Girl painted with thanaka.JPG
Burmese girl painted with thanaka.
Burmese women colour their (and their childrens) faces with thanaka bark. This is stem of a plant, which is ground into a powder, mixed with water and applied onto the face. It is said to protects the skin against the sun - and it lightens the colour of the face.
The picture was taken in February, 2005. The girl was selling jade necklaces for tourists at the Unfinished Stupa (Mingun Phaya) in Myanmar.
